Owned by Italian restaurateurs Luca Balbo, Tommaso Bartoli and Lino Torre, Park Street Pasta & Wine occupies a 19th-century corner building at the junction of Park and Perrins streets, a short walk from South Melbourne Town Hall. Head chef Tommaso Bartoli, who trained in Florence, brings a Tuscan sensibility to a concise menu that changes with the seasons, built around fresh extruded pasta made in-house using a specialised die-cutting process that's uncommon even in high-end kitchens. Regular dishes include mafaldine cacio e pepe, agnolotti dal plin with veal and rabbit, and pappardelle with a pork and beef brisket bolognese, alongside share starters like house-made rosemary focaccia and mozzarella-stuffed carrozza with nduja pesto. The wine list runs to a tightly curated selection of Italian, international and local labels chosen to match the food rather than overwhelm it. Inside, the restaurant keeps an intimate bar and a timber-lined front dining room, with a second dining room upstairs, The Lombardy Room, available for private functions. Outdoors, a terrazzo area and open-air deck with festoon lighting and heaters extend service into the cooler months, a setup that's proven popular since it was introduced.
