Dance World Studios

A performing arts school on Bank Street training dancers from age three through to professional level, with full-time, part-time and casual classes across seven heritage studios.

Dance World Studios has been training performers in South Melbourne since 1987, running full-time vocational courses alongside casual classes for children, teens and adults. Housed in the heritage-listed former Emerald Hall on Bank Street, the school covers dance, musical theatre, singing and acting under its APO Arts Academy banner. Students range from beginners looking for a fun class to those pursuing full-time careers in stage and screen.

Dance World Studios operates out of Emerald Hall, a heritage-listed building on Bank Street originally built in 1873 as Lauder's Riding School. Since 1987, the school has grown into one of Melbourne's larger performing arts training providers, now trading as a division of APO Arts Academy. The building holds seven fully equipped dance studios and two vocal rooms, along with a recording studio, dressing rooms with showers and lockers, and a studio that converts into a 100-seat theatrette for auditions and small productions. The school's core offering is vocational training for dancers pursuing a professional career, including Professional Development, Advanced Associate, Intermediate Associate and Foundation courses that combine technical dance training with musical theatre disciplines such as singing, acting and music theory. Alongside these full-time programs, Dance World Studios runs junior and teen classes for students aged three and up, covering jazz, ballet, contemporary, hip hop, tap and acrobatics, plus casual adult classes for those who want to dance for fitness and enjoyment rather than a qualification. The studios are also available for hire, used for musical theatre rehearsals, dance exams, workshops, team-building sessions and commercial filming, and come with amenities including full-length mirrors, pianos, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi and on-street parking. Dance World Studios also runs a talent agency arm connecting graduates with industry opportunities. The academy is open Monday to Saturday, with class timetables published each term on its website.
