Coleman’s Music

Family-owned since 1989, Coleman's Music stocks new, preloved and vintage guitars, amps and pedals from its South Melbourne showroom, with repairs and servicing on site.

Coleman's Music is a family-owned guitar store that's been part of Melbourne's music scene since 1989, when Michael and Roslynn Coleman opened their original Cranbourne shop. Now trading under the Coleman name, the team specialises in new, preloved and vintage electric and acoustic guitars, amps and effects pedals from their South Melbourne showroom, alongside in-house repairs, servicing and trade-ins for players of every level.

Coleman's Music has been a family affair since 1989, when Michael and Roslynn Coleman opened a small shop in Cranbourne selling second-hand gear, affordable instruments and running music lessons for local students. Their children Ryan, Tim and Amber later joined the business, helping it grow into a well-loved fixture of the Melbourne guitar scene. A second store followed on La Trobe Street in the CBD in 2002, and in 2021 the business dropped its original Cranbourne Music name in favour of Coleman's Music, honouring the family behind it. In August 2025, Coleman's Music moved into a bigger, purpose-built showroom at 266 Coventry Street in South Melbourne, bringing new, preloved and vintage guitars, amps and pedals together under one roof. The team has a particular focus on guitar amplifiers, carrying brands such as Fender, Victory and AER alongside a broad range of electric and acoustic guitars, basses, effects pedals and accessories. Beyond retail, Coleman's Music offers in-house guitar and amp repairs and servicing, along with trade-ins for players looking to upgrade their gear. Staff are guitarists themselves, so conversations in-store tend to be about tone, technique and gear rather than a hard sell, and the showroom is set up for browsing, trying instruments and getting honest advice, from first electric guitars through to rare vintage amps.
