Avenue Bookstore

An independent bookshop in Albert Park Village stocking fiction, non-fiction and children's titles, with regular author events and sister stores in Richmond and Elsternwick.

Avenue Bookstore has traded from Dundas Place in Albert Park since 1986, building a reputation for its literary fiction and children's sections. The independent bookshop has since grown to three Melbourne locations, adding stores in Elsternwick and Richmond, and hosts a regular programme of author talks.

Avenue Bookstore opened on Dundas Place in Albert Park in 1986 and remains the original store in what has grown into a small independent Melbourne chain. The Albert Park shop sits in the retail strip of Albert Park Village, near the local library, and carries a wide-ranging stock with particular strength in literary fiction, art books and children's literature, covering both local and imported titles. Staff are known for offering personal recommendations across genres, and the children's section includes dedicated specialists who work with school and family customers. Over the following decades the business expanded beyond its original site, opening a second store in Elsternwick in 2012 and a third in Richmond in 2016, while keeping the Albert Park shop as its long-standing home. The bookshop runs a regular programme of author talks and in-store events, and is a member of the Australian Booksellers Association, whose gift cards and Australian Book Vouchers are accepted in-store and online. Customers can shop in person or order through the store's website, which offers Click and Collect alongside standard home delivery across Melbourne. The Albert Park store trades seven days a week, giving Albert Park and South Melbourne residents a nearby independent alternative to larger chain retailers for new release fiction, non-fiction and gifts.
