Albert Park South Melbourne Rowing Club was formed in 1995 through the merger of the Albert Park Rowing Club, established in 1873, and the South Melbourne Rowing Club, established in 1878. The combined club built the Plant-Williamson Rowing Pavilion on Aughtie Drive, named after long-serving club figures George Plant of Albert Park and Dudley Williamson of South Melbourne. Operating as a non-profit under Rowing Victoria, the club now has more than 150 members across junior, senior, masters, life and social categories. Programs range from Come and Try sessions and structured Learn to Row courses to a Development Squad offering free coaching, a Competitive Rowing pathway and Ticket to Row casual sessions for those wanting occasional outings on the water. Albert Park Lake gives the club access to a six-lane regatta course, one of the few dedicated rowing venues of this kind within inner Melbourne, supporting everything from beginner technique sessions to full regattas. Beyond training and racing, the club runs a social calendar of fundraisers, working bees and seasonal gatherings that keep its junior, senior and masters squads connected. The Plant-Williamson Pavilion is also available for venue hire, giving the club an additional means of supporting its rowing programs. New rowers are encouraged to start with a Come and Try session before committing to a full Learn to Row course.
