Come From Away

Event Details

CLOC Musical Theatre stages the true story of Gander, Newfoundland's response to grounded 9/11 flights, at St Kilda's National Theatre.

Come From Away tells the true story of the small Newfoundland town of Gander, where thousands of stranded airline passengers were taken in after North American airspace closed on September 11, 2001. CLOC Musical Theatre brings the acclaimed musical to St Kilda's National Theatre for a two-and-a-half week season, with a small ensemble cast playing dozens of characters across the show's fast-moving folk-pop score. The musical is built around real accounts from passengers and Gander locals, balancing the tension of that week with warmth and, unexpectedly, plenty of humour. It's a strong choice for musical theatre fans and anyone drawn to true stories told through an ensemble format rather than a single central character. CLOC is one of Melbourne's longest-running community musical theatre companies, and the National Theatre's heritage St Kilda building gives the season an intimate setting close to Fitzroy Street's restaurants and bars, making it easy to build a night out around the show.
