Champainting opened its first studio in 2012 and has grown into a paint-and-sip business with locations across Sydney and Victoria, including two studios on Clarendon Street in South Melbourne. The format keeps things simple: guests bring their own drinks and nibbles, an artist leads the room through a chosen painting step by step, and everyone works at their own pace on a supplied canvas. No previous art experience is expected, and the atmosphere leans more towards a social night out than a formal class. The 206 Clarendon Street studio sits on the corner of Clarendon and York streets, directly opposite the Clarendon Hotel, with the number 12 tram stopping right outside and easy access from Southbank and the CBD. The space fits up to 42 guests across a mix of table sizes, and the studio supplies paint, brushes, easels, aprons, wine glasses, champagne flutes, tapas plates, bottle openers and a fridge to keep drinks cool, so all guests need to bring is their own drinks, snacks and company. Beyond the regular public sessions, Champainting runs themed nights such as Paint Your Mate and Paint Your Pet, along with glow-in-the-dark sessions, and takes bookings for private events including birthdays, hens' parties, corporate team-building and other celebrations. Gift vouchers are available for anyone wanting to book a session for someone else. The studio is on ground level and wheelchair accessible, though its bathroom facilities are not, and there's no dedicated on-site parking, with nearby options at Clarendon Centre and Melbourne Square.
