Casa De Vinos

Casa de Vinos is a family-run specialist retailer and lounge focused on rare whisky, tequila, rum and cognac, set across from South Melbourne Market on Coventry Street. Originally founded in Port Melbourne in 2010, the business moved to its current South Melbourne home in 2020. With over 600 open bottles available to taste, the two-level space works equally well for a quick browse or a longer evening of tastings.

Casa de Vinos began in Port Melbourne in 2010 as a family-run importer and specialist retailer, moving to its current South Melbourne location, directly across from the market, in 2020. What started with a focus on wine has shifted over the years toward rare and hard-to-find spirits, particularly whisky, and the business now imports directly from producers across Japan, Scotland, the Americas and beyond. The Coventry Street space operates as both a retail store and a tasting lounge, with more than 600 open bottles available for customers to try before they buy or build their own flight. Upstairs, the lounge hosts weekly tastings, masterclasses and trade events covering everything from mezcal to brandy, alongside WSET spirits courses run with an experienced educator. The food menu is kept simple and complementary, running to charcuterie, cheese, olives and similar light bites designed to sit alongside a glass or a flight rather than compete with it. Casa de Vinos is also behind Whisky Abbey, an annual whisky festival held in Australia. Whether it's a considered gift, a rare bottle for a collector, or an evening spent working through a flight of single casks, the South Melbourne store gives visitors a chance to explore spirits well beyond the usual bottle shop range.
